The race, the competing faith coalitions, and what the list shows — and doesn’t.

The announcement

On Oct. 16, 2026, Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton’s U.S. Senate campaign announced a “Pastors for Paxton” coalition and gave the Dallas Morning News a list of 27 faith leaders from across Texas. The DMN described them as largely from evangelical and charismatic backgrounds, mostly leading nondenominational churches.

In a statement to the paper Paxton said: “Texas pastors have always been the heart of our communities, and they know exactly what is at stake in this race… I am honored to have them standing by my side as we work to ensure America remains one nation under God.” Richard Ellis of Reunion Church in Dallas was quoted on behalf of the group.

The campaign said the pastors would lead their communities in prayer ahead of the Nov. 3 election, and that several would pray with Paxton at the start of his “Come and Take It” bus tour in Rockwall on Oct. 17. The tour is scheduled to end Nov. 2 at the Alamo.
